Default Making a Ranger build? Look here!

Seeing as there's an influx of Ranger builds due to patches and such, keep in mind of some things when creating a build.

1. Interrupts will be your best skill on your bar always. If you don't have [distracting shot] or [savage shot], your build automatically is crap. Unless its a farming build or of the such.

Without interrupts you take away what the ranger it good at. Through interrupting you automatically spread conditions and pressure the team. Interrupt the monk the and whole team (considering its a small team) will suffer. Interrupt Elementalists, and you'll save your team a lot of trouble.
You need interrupts for the majority of ranger builds.

2. Test your builds before you post them. It doesn't matter how good they are in theory. If you don't test your build, then don't post it. You can think how 1337 your build is in your mind, but if you test it and it fails miserably, fix it up, make a thread for help, or just don't post it.

3. Post a complete build. If you have 6 skills than 2 open without any rhyme or reason stated, than its not complete. I don't care how the first 6 skills are, without the other two its not a build.

4. State how the build works, you made it, so explain your work. Be sure to post the equipment you should use.

5. Post your attribute points when using the build.

Thats it for now. If you want something added, tell me.

You need interrupts. Regardless of the build.

So.... your thread title is about making a ranger biuld, and the best you could come up with was to use an interupt?

While I agree with the rest of the post, I'm feeling like it's time for...

A post such as the op's needs to be generalised and stickied in Campfire with the title "Post a Build or GTFO!"

*Ahem*

Or something along those lines.

Alex has the best avatar, I've named that kitten "Mini Orange"

The thread title needs changed, it should say "How to post a Ranger Build" or really any build for the most part.

Payne, Rangers are not tanks. Also excelent job contradicting yourself on the whole "you need and interupt" issue.

And really, 5 energy every 30 secs from Leech Sig is "infinite" energy? DShot is one of the best non-elite Interupts in the game (If not the best) and you wanna take Leech Sig on a Ranger?

whatever lol....both good - some unknown reason I've always prefered WD not sure why spose it was just one of the first skills I used and keep it for naustalga purposes? who knows? I just like it - maybe its the picture? ^^
Yeah, picture. I mean, Whirling has better graphics, but then again it has worse duration/recharge compared to Lightning Reflex. And IAS is ftw.

But then again, Drunken Master > LR or Whirling. Even it's only 11% at r2 without liquid, a ranger doesn't need more. And if he needs, then I would just use new [Expert's Dexterity] + serious PEW PEW ZOMG NOT THE FACE AAARGHHH all mobs.

Sorry for the interruption, but please play nice. We can discuss things without /facepalms or calling one another names. I've edited posts and deleted others, so there isn't anyone getting picked on here.

It's funny, I've actually rediscovered my ranger after playing through all 4 campaigns as a touch ranger and later an ursan button masher. It's sad because I am only now realizing the power of interrupting and how to actually pay attention to what the enemy is casting. It's true what they say about touch rangers. Yes, they can breeze you through PvE but you definitely lose something in the process.

I think throw dirt and whirling defense are two very powerful skills that are worthy of any ranger bar. Great for temporarily dealing with a pesky melee unit that happens to notice you.

I'll have to try leech signet. I hadn't thought of that to complement DS/SS....

Well with expertise you don't need energy gain. Just don't spam any skills and youll be fine.

Throw dirt is great if someone approaches you, but its a stupid idea to charge in and use it (not saying that you do)

And all touch rangers are hardly rangers. Youll learn nothing playing one.

If this is really for the sake of people who never touched Rangers before, please clarify and add that [distracting shot] or [savage shot] is necessary for majority of bow-wielding builds, not just any build.

You only need one interrupt depending on what type of Ranger you are playing.

QFT. There are some people who just want to mow through the game as fast as possible (to what end, we don't know), and some people who want to actually enjoy the game - in this case, enjoy playing a "Ranger", actually using a bow and maybe a pet.

On another note, my Ranger always carries an interrupt (DS), but most of the time I leave the interrupting to someone who's designed for it. Of course, when I'm running my BHA build, that someone is me. (But usually I'm just some common-dog barrage pet type thing. )

Even on my barrage-bha bars I carry an interrupt. Although heros excel at interrupting also. On the rare occasions I bring gwen, she can interrupt great.

Considering [skill]distracting shot[/skill]is one of the top three skills in the game, not carrying it is like a monk without [skill]protective spirit[/skill].
